Overview
As a Alarm & Extinguisher Apprentice at EPOSD, you will be entered into a comprehensive training in all aspects of fire suppression, fire alarm, and fire extinguisher safety. During this two year apprenticeship, as you complete in-class and on the job learning requirements, you will receive incentivized pay increases and valuable NFPA certifications towards becoming an experienced journeyman in the fire suppression industry.
Education & Certification

High school diploma or GED (required)

Enrolled in or willing to enroll in an approved apprenticeship program (required)

OSHA 10 certification (preferred, must obtain within 90-day probation period)

OSHA 30 certification (preferred)
-
Willingness to obtain state or local fire alarm, fire extinguisher, or fire suppression license within the required timeframe

Manufacturer training certifications (preferred but not required)
Experience
-
No prior experience required, but 1+ year of experience in electrical, mechanical, or construction trades is preferred

Basic understanding of fire protection systems (preferred but not required)

Experience working with hand and power tools (preferred)

Willingness to learn NFPA codes, industry standards, and safety regulations
Skills & Abilities

Strong willingness to learn and follow instructions from experienced technicians

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents (training provided)

Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel

Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and documentation of daily work

Comfortable working with low-voltage wiring, conduit installation, and suppression system components

Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and at heights
-
Strong time management and organizational skills
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs. regularly

Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts
-
Ability to work in commercial, industrial, and outdoor environments
-
Comfortable working in tight spaces, above ceilings, and around heat-producing equipment
Other Requirements

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
-
Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time as needed for projects and training

Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed

Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, and inspectors

Must be reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented

Must be willing to travel in and out of state as needed.
